Before Detoxifying Patients

It is important for patients to take certain precautions before detoxifying heavy metals using any type of chelating agents.

If any of the synthetic chelating agents such as DMPS, DMSA, EDTA are to be used just prior to detoxifying, either IV or orally, it is crucial that the following precautions be taken:

1. Take HMD™ during the use of these synthetic chelators - adults can take the normal dose of 50 three times a day. Children can reduce this dosage according to weight - see Weight Table.

2. As the detoxification of metals is an oxidative process in all its phases, many free radicals are produced that should be neutralized using free-radical scavengers, as well as supplying electrons to oxidized heavy metals to aid in their removal. These would include:

  • VITAMIN C: buffered with Bioflavinoids: Do not use simultaneously with antibiotic, antiviral or cilantro. Start with 1 gram three times daily and sloly work up to 3 grams x 3 times daily. Best taken as a buffered powder such as BalanCe.

  • ANTIOXIDANT: - good-quality, containing vitamins A, E (as a mixture of tocopherols), N-Acetyl Cysteine, as well as antioxidant phytonutrients such as Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) extract, Turmeric (Curcuma longa) extract, Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) extract, Grape Seed (Vitis vinifera) extract, Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) extract and Lutein. Extension Antioxidants contains all these in one formula.

Other supplements that can be taken to help protect the body's organs and tissues, as well as preventing the reabsorption of heavy metals are as follows:

  • GARLIC: Protects blood, an immuno stimulant, supplies sulphur, is an  anti-fungal, a parasitic and a microbial agent. The simplest way to take garlic is freshly sliced in salads or with meals. Other choices could include AlliTrue, a patented formula that delivers high-dose allicin directly to the cells. Garlic has a tendency of inactivating Cilantro, so it is best to take this at least 2-3 hours AWAY from the HMD™ which does contain Cilantro.

  • CILANTRIN using 1 cup fresh Coriander leaves, a few walnuts, 1 clove garlic, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice and 6 tablespoons olive oil  in a blender. Take a tablespoon of this a couple of times daily with your meals.

  • MINERALS: it is important to provide adequate minerals to prevent heavy metal binding by antagonistic minerals. A good general multimineral formula that contains therapeutic doses of Vitamin K (phytonadione), Folic Acid, Calcium, Iodine (Potassium Iodide), Magnesium, Zinc (Monomethionine), Selenium (from Selenomethionine), Copper (Sebacate), Manganese (Amino Acid Chelate), Chromium (Polinicotinate), Molybdenum (Amino Acid Chelate), Potassium (from Potassium Succinate), Boron (Amino Acid Chelate), Silicon (Silicon Dioxide) and Vanadium (Vanadyl Sulfate). This formula is called Advanced Essential Minerals.

  • CHLORELLA: Additional Chlorella is useful for mobilizing mercury and other heavy metals from the extracellular spaces, the gut, as well as helping to bind toxic chemicals and neurotoxins. A good mobilizing and therapeutic dose would be 3,000 mg daily taken in three separate doses of 1,000 mg each.

  • ORGAN DRAINAGE: It is crucially important to make absolutely certain that all the detoxification organs of the body such as the liver, kidneys, skin, lymphatics and gut are all optimized otherwise mercury and other metals will be easily mobilized and redeposited into other tissues and organs. We discussed this in the section entitled Practical Points for Practitioners.
