INTRODUCTION
It is important when following any type of detoxification for
heavy metals that the practitioner make certain that the patient's
detoxification systems are fully functioning - the liver, kidneys,
lymphatic system, gut and skin. This is crucially important,
otherwise the patient will be overwhelmed with toxins and they
will suffer adverse reactions as a result of metals being
mobilized but not being able to be eliminated.
There are a number of herbal formulas that can be used to open
up and help these detoxification systems to drain - we will call
them "drainage remedies." Let's take a look at some of
these remedies in more detail:
What do the Drainage Remedies do
-
They open the body’s main pathways of detoxification, called
the Primary Emmunctaries: the liver, gastrointestinal system,
the lungs, the kidneys and the skin. This is like opening the
doors of your body to allow toxins a way out!
-
Enter the cells and cause accumulated toxins to exit cells
into the extracellular space (the space in your body between
the living cells), sometimes called the matrix.
-
Encourage the further movement of toxins from the
extracellular space out of the body through one of the "open
doors" or Primary Emmunctaries
-
Promote healing of damaged systems and restore proper
functioning to sluggish or overactive systems so that the body
may be restored to a state of balance and health.
Examples of Drainage Remedies
Throughout history there have been a number of herbal
combinations used as drainage remedies - these include:
1. LIVER DRAINAGE REMEDIES
Milk thistle and Wahoo bark have often been used - this is
available in the tincture HEPATO
TINCTURE.
Another remedy is HEPATOGEN
- this phytochemical-based formula is a true "liver optimizer."
HepatoGen is suited for individuals with a sluggish liver,
hepatitis, cirrhosis or fatty liver and to protect against liver
dysfunction. The formula contains milk thistle, artichoke extract,
turmeric, dandelion, methionine, betaine, liver concentrate and
green tea extract, all of which protect the liver, stimulate bile
flow, and help remove fat from the liver. Other factors help
stimulate the growth of new liver cells to replace damaged old
cells.
2. KIDNEY DRAINAGE REMEDIES
Gravel root and Dandelion root have commonly been used to drain
the kidneys - this is available in the HEPATO
TINCTURE.
3. GUT REMEDIES
Fibre is good for you. More and more research reports that
getting enough fibre promotes overall good health and supports a
healthy colon. This fibre-rich phytonutrient formula gently
promotes internal cleansing and elimination detoxification and
healthy intestinal function. Components in this formulation have
demonstrated an antitoxic effect by shortening the intestinal
transit time, lowering the absorption of potential carcinogens,
reducing the conversion of bile salts to potential carcinogens,
binding toxic materials for elimination, and improving the ratio
of toxic bacterial flora to friendly bacterial flora in the gut.
The plant fibres in Detox
FiberPlex stimulate and sooth your intestines.
Fructooligosaccharide (FOS) is included in this formula because
FOS feeds and supports the growth and activity of healthy bacteria
like acidophilus naturally good for the gut.
HOMEOPATHIC DRAINAGE REMEDIES
A second therapeutic method is comparable to drainage; this is
Diluted and Energized Organotherapy. Organotherapy or the use of
Sarcodes is the therapy which acts on the various glands and
tissues of the human body to restore function. It works by the
administration of grandular and tissue extracts which act directly
upon the malfunctioning gland or tissue by stimulating or draining
it. Organo therapy remedies are most often prescribed in the form
of sublingual drops. Thus, to stimulate a failing liver or bile
vessel, a sarcode of Liver 8X or Bilinum 8X is used. Kidney 8X
will increase the diuresis. Mucous of Colon 8X is an excellent
constipation remedy. These are easily available from homeopathic
pharmacies around the world.
PARASITES
Chronic
disorders are always caused by a number of stress factors, of
which parasites represent just one. However, there is no doubt
that they occupy a central position in the
pathological process because of the way they interact within the
organism.
Parasites may:
-
cause deficiency symptoms by
absorbing elements of food and thus depriving
their host;
-
Parasites may take energy away from the
organism;
-
Parasites may mechanically destroy body
cells and thus tissue and organs (e.g. hookworms do this by
damaging the intestinal mucosa);
-
Parasites may harbour viruses and bacteria.
They act as a reservoir for other microbially-conditioned
infections;
-
Parasites may cause inflammation and tumours;
-
Parasites may cause tissue to form tumours;
-
Parasites may poison the organism with their
metabolites;
-
Parasites may cause pain;
-
Parasites may weaken or block the immune
system.
-
Parasites may cause allergic or pseudoallergic reactions.
Parasites are attracting increasing interest from
parasite ecologists as potential indicators of environmental
quality because of the variety of ways in which they respond to
anthropogenic pollution. However, until recently, little was known
about the accumulation of toxins within parasites. Certain
parasites, particularly intestinal acanthocephalans and cestodes
of fish, can accumulate heavy metals at concentrations that are
orders of magnitude higher than those in the host tissues or the
environment - Sures, B., Siddall, R. and Taraschewski, H. Parasit
Today, 1999 Jan;15(1):16-21.
One very excellent parasite formula made of herbs
is Hulda
Clark's Antiparasite tincture. This is also an
excellent formula for killing both parasites and the eggs that
would otherwise hatch again inside the body.
